Additional Instruction for Magister Castren by K.E. von Baer (written on March 8th, 1844)

Abstract

The document shows initial stages of history and methods of craniological collection building in the Imperial Academy of Sciences in 1840s. Museum contacts of Karl Baer, the Director of the Academy’s of Science Anatomical Cabinet, are given as an example: for the first time Baer’s instruction for ethnographer and linguist M.A. Castren is published in Russian. It is focused on organization of archeological excavations, collection of craniological and ethnographic materials in Minusinsk District.
